The performance of FRP chimneys depends largely on the choice of base material - resin. In order to ensure the safety of the inner tube, the FRP inner tube base material adopts vinyl ester resin DERAKANE*510C produced by Dow Chemical Company, USA, which is a kind of vinyl resin with flame retardant function. The resin contains brominated epoxy skeleton, which gives the resin flame retardancy. The flame retardant performance index - oxygen index reaches 32. The resin has special corrosion resistance in mixed environments such as solvents, chemicals and oxidizing acids, and excellent retention of strength and toughness at high temperatures. It is widely used in chimneys and chimney linings, especially in the application of wet flue gas desulfurization FRP chimney inner tubes. Due to its comprehensive characteristics of high corrosion resistance, high heat resistance and high strength, its mechanical strength will not be reduced under high temperature conditions at a maximum temperature of 170 degrees.
At the same time, according to experimental analysis results and years of project engineering experience, the lubricity matching of fiber and resin is also a factor affecting the quality of FRP products, because different fibers have certain differences in the coupling agents on their surfaces. This difference determines the lubricity of resin and glass fiber. If the coupling agent matches the resin, the fiber can be completely impregnated with the resin. Otherwise, the impregnation effect is not good and the strength of the product will decrease. Corrosion-resistant glass fiber is selected. The glass fiber is a patented boron-free glass fiber. It has the advantages of corrosion-resistant E-CR glass fiber and E glass fiber reinforced materials. It meets ASTM standards and can be well lubricated with the resin.
As early as 1993, the United States issued ASTM D 5364, a standard guide for the design, production and installation of FRP smoke stacks in coal-fired power plants, which was reconfirmed in 2008. ASTM D 5364-08[2] provides detailed regulations on the applicable working conditions, material selection, design calculation methods, production and installation, quality control and inspection of FRP chimneys, and is currently the main specification for the design of FRP chimneys.
Domestic testing standards for fiber reinforced plastic materials are complete, but there are relatively few studies on FRP chimney design in China, and engineering practice is also very limited. There is still no special specification. The design specifications for FRP structures are mainly the chemical industry standards "FRP/polyvinyl chloride (FRP/PVC) composite pipe design regulations" (HG 20520-40 1992) [3] and "FRP chemical equipment design regulations" (HG/T20696-1999) [4]. These two standards can be used as references for FRP structure design. However, the use conditions and structural characteristics of FRP chimneys are quite different from those of chemical equipment, so it is difficult to directly quote the chemical industry standards.
